A convergent difference scheme for the infinity Laplacian: construction of absolutely minimizing Lipschitz extensions

چکیده

This article considers the problem of building absolutely minimizing Lipschitz extensions to a given function. These extensions can be characterized as being the solution of a degenerate elliptic partial differential equation, the “infinity Laplacian”, for which there exist unique viscosity solutions. A convergent difference scheme for the infinity Laplacian equation is introduced, which arises by minimizing the discrete Lipschitz constant of the solution at every grid point. Existence and uniqueness of solutions to the scheme is shown directly. Solutions are also shown to satisfy a discrete comparison principle. Solutions are computed using an explicit iterative scheme which is equivalent to solving the parabolic version of the equation.

Weak Fubini Property and Infinity Harmonic Functions in Riemannian and Sub-riemannian Manifolds

We examine the relationship between infinity harmonic functions, absolutely minimizing Lipschitz extensions, strong absolutely minimizing Lipschitz extensions, and absolutely gradient minimizing extensions in CarnotCarathéodory spaces. Using the weak Fubini property we show that absolutely minimizing Lipschitz extensions are infinity harmonic in any sub-Riemannian manifold.

An image decomposition model using the total variation and the infinity Laplacian

This paper is devoted to a recent topic in image analysis: the decomposition of an image into a cartoon or geometric part, and an oscillatory or texture part. Here, we propose a practical solution to the (BV,G) model proposed by Y. Meyer . We impose that the cartoon is a function of bounded variation, while the texture is represented as the Laplacian of some function whose gradient belongs to L...

An Explicit Solution of the Lipschitz Extension Problem

Building Lipschitz extensions of functions is a problem of classical analysis. Extensions are not unique: the classical results of Whitney and McShane provide two explicit examples. In certain cases there exists an optimal extension, which is the solution of an elliptic partial differential equation, the infinity Laplace equation. In this work, we find an explicit formula for a suboptimal exten...

Brain and Surface Warping via Minimizing Lipschitz Extensions

Based on the notion Minimizing Lipschitz Extensions and its connection with the infinity Laplacian, a computational framework for surface warping and in particular brain warping (the nonlinear registration of brain imaging data) is presented in this paper. The basic concept is to compute a map between surfaces that minimizes a distortion measure based on geodesic distances while respecting the ...

Geometric Surface and Brain Warping via Geodesic Minimizing Lipschitz Extensions

Based on the notion of Minimizing Lipschitz Extensions and its connection with the infinity Laplacian, a theoretical and computational framework for geometric nonrigid surface warping, and in particular the nonlinear registration of brain imaging data, is presented in this paper. The basic concept is to compute a map between surfaces that minimizes a distortion measure based on geodesic distanc...
